About Debra

 

It's hard to know where to start sometimes, when you have to sit down and condense who you are down into a tiny paragraph on a web page. So people like you get an idea of the person behind the brand or the service. But for the purposes of the exercise, I'm going to start this one with love.

 

This is a photo of me and my husband, Pete. (On our wedding day, in case the veil, frilly shirt front and bow tie the size of a small car didn't give it away.) Our first date was a Meatloaf concert, and I knew he was the one the first time I realised just how much I hated getting out of the front seat and leaving him when I had to sneak home (where I would, inevitably, get caught by my mum or one of my six siblings). That was 37 years ago. Today we are the proud parents of three phenomenal sons, and grandparents to six of the brightest, funniest, cleverest and most beautiful kids in the world. 

 

So what does all that have to do with me being a celebrant, you might ask. Or indeed you, as someone here potentially looking for someone to officiate the event you're planning. Well, a lot actually.

 

I've grown up and lived my whole life amongst people who deeply treasure being together; celebrating and being joyful together on the great days, and taking care of each other on the not so great ones. Kitsch as it might sound, I know that living a life like that is the reason I am both humbled and blessed to call my friends family, and my family, friends - even on our worst days.

 

Which is why being a celebrant is more than just a job to me. It's about relationships; about helping you as the client to create, design and put on an event that celebrates all that it beautiful about life. That you can look back on in the days to come and be filled with the same joy, delight and warmth you experienced that day. In short, to pay forward some of the love I've experienced in the course of my adventures, to people about to start their own. People just like you.
